I began running regularly in 2006 when I was 33 years of age. That was also the year my first son, L, was born. The intensity of my running stepped up considerably in 2008 – a year that heralded the birth of my second son, C.
For sometime, I valiantly tried to convince my wife, and especially myself, that the sudden desire to pound the pavement was totally unrelated to the sudden responsibilities of parenthood. I suspect this pretence was swiftly dismissed by my ever-so-perceptive wife, probably the very first time I re-laced up my moth-clad pair of joggers which had been in hibernation since high school.
With this blog, I am coming clean to myself with this whole charade. Of course I started running so as to get away from the chores of childcare, even if it is just for one hour a week. Of course I enter fun runs and half-marathons so as to manufacture excuses for longer training sessions, again in order to reduce the stress of dealing with my children. And of course I have been dreaming of tackling the NYC and the London Marathon (I live in Sydney, Australia – as far from NYC and London as you can get!) so as to cherish the thought of enjoying a mini-holiday by myself with uninterrupted sleeps and lavatory peace.
The purpose of this Blog is to: (1) Chart the parental journey since the birth of my children, as reflected over the numerous kilometres that I logged during that period; and (2) Share the daily trials and tribulations of raising my two wonderful boys, with all those dads out there running the longest, toughest and yet the most rewarding race that is called Parenthood.
Thank you for stopping by simplydaisies. Come back anytime!
A great looking site you have, and very jealous of your Paris half marathon!
I don’t really read blogs about parenting, but your’s caught my interest! 🙂
Enjoyed reading those posts about your kids..made me chuckle to myself.. two awesome kids you’ve got! 😀
Hope to see more posts!
Godbless. 🙂
Thanks for you comments. Perhaps my ramblings will give you some heads-up, even to a miniscule extent, of the trials and tribulations of parenthood when you eventually get to it. Good luck in your studies.
Hey, thanks for stopping by my blog. I love your perspective, and I can’t wait to read some more of your stuff!
Thanks. I stumbled upon yours while trawling for parenting blogs and enjoyed reading some of your posts. Tell your wife to keep up her blog on parenting too! Best of luck!
Umm.. Congrats! 😉

Just found your blog, enjoyed it so far. Hope to stop by often. I think we have a lot in common.
Hey, just read some of your posts and, you’re right, we do have many things in common, and I will enter Boston one day when I’m allowed by my better half to travel to the absolute other end of the globe, so that I can trudge thru 42.2 km!
I hope you give your wife just as much time to pursue her own hobbies as you spend jogging!
I think so, what with her tennis and all those soppy tv shows she watches on laptop. But then again, what would I know, I’m just a guy! 🙂
Heartfelt thanks for visiting Free Little Words and liking the post you read. I look forward to your future posts.
My pleasure. I admire your site and your writing style. Best of luck.
Thanks for stopping by. I love my running too 🙂
You’re welcome, was a pleasure to read a couple of your posts.

I see you’ve already been nominated plenty of times, so no need to rehash, but I did nominate you for the Liebster. I love the blog and couldn’t help myself.

That is so very kind of you.
Thanks, and best wishes with the big arrival in a month’s time!
Thanks! I’m definitely ready for her to arrive.
Love this LOL. We have five children ranging in age from 5 to 18yrs. Ive been the fulltime parent for most of that time but six months ago we switched and my fabulous husband has been running the house and family “solo”…. IN BETWEEN training for his first half-ironman. As I write this, he’s in Samoa to run in a half marathon and he’s trying to fanangle a way to stay on there for the triathlon that’s happening two weeks from now. And yes, all completely co=incidental to his full-time Dad role! I used to say the only way I got to go away and have a holiday from my kids – was to get pregnant again cos I would fly to NZ to deliver the baby. What I should have done is take up running.
I appreciate the way you wives humour us and pretend you don’t know why we dads suddenly take up marathons and tour-de-neighbourhoods. We certainly enjoy the delusion that we’re doing it for fitness reasons! 🙂
Hi, I am an avid reader of your blog and just realised you have been nominated before but I nominated you for the Liebster too!
I am very honoured. Thank you so much. For some strange reason, however, I have a tendency not to participate in these awards. Nevertheless, your recognition is greatly appreciated. And, of course, I am also an avid follower of your blog. 🙂
I’ve nominated you for the Shine On Award!

I decided to thank each person who liked Chip the Chopper personally. It was like standing in front of a firing squad in those last moments before I pressed the publish button. Thanks for the like.
Hey, bette to write it out than act it out, is my philosophy! 🙂
hahahaha.
Must admit I have met a few people in my short life whom are in desperate need for some axe-tion…
To my friend I’ve never met, jog over to my blog as I mentioned you in a recent post of mine.

I’m sorry but I nominated you for a Liebster award. Couldn’t help myself.

Hey don’t be sorry. It’s a great honour to be nominated by a blogger of your calibre!
Wow, I should tell the wife. Married to someone of my calibre. How fortunate is she?
Thanks for the compliment.
Just finished reading every word you have written and must say that I have been incredibly entertained. You are a fantastic writer and storyteller. What am I going to do on my commutes now?
Perhaps you can start looking out for people wearing gym clothes on public transport vehicles? 🙂 Btw, you may well be the very first person to read every one of my posts. That deserves me buying you a drink or 10 if ever you’re in Sydney! 🙂 thanks again.
Buddy, you got mail. And that normally implies work. I have mentioned you in a blog tour and would very much like you to put on your mental training gear and enlighten us about your writing process. It’s sort of not-an-award and sort of an-award. Check it out. And please don’t let the flame die. No pressure.

Mate, I don’t usually do this kind of things but, for you, I would be honored. Now, I have to wreck my puny brains to come up with answers to the questions.
I know, I’ve also stopped these kind of acceptance a long time ago, but I’m honoured that you have agreed to accept the torch.
